SUMMARY:QUIDAM: Opera Masterclass with Alison Wells
DESCRIPTION:An Opera Masterclass with Alison Wells\, during which four young singers are given 30 minutes to work with a professional on a song or aria of their choice. Tickets are £10 on the door\, and refreshments will be available.  \nAlison Wells was born in Yorkshire and originally trained as a pianist. She read Mathematics and Music at London University and then spent a year at the Royal Academy of Music\, after which she began her vocal studies. She made her South Bank debut in the Park Lane Group’s January Series\, and in the same year sang the Governess in the Turn of the Screw and took part in Elisabeth Schwarzkopf’s Masterclasses at the Wigmore Hall. Since then she has appeared in all the major London concert halls and in many festivals both at home and abroad.  \nA large part of Alison’s work is in the field of contemporary music\, and she has sung with London Sinfonietta\, Matrix\, Lontano\, Music Projects/London\, Composers’ Ensemble\, Kokoro\, Psappha\, Gemini\, Ensemble Corrente\, Apartment House\, the french ensemble 2e2m\, the Schoenberg Ensemble and ASKO in Amsterdam\, and Champ d’Action in Antwerp. She has broadcast many times on BBC Radio 3. Alison is in great demand as a teacher of singing\, teaching professional singers in both the opera and choral worlds in her private studio\, and she is a member of the vocal studies department at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and at the Royal College of Music.  \nThe singers include Hannah Crerar (Mezzo-soprano)\, Eric Kallo (Counter-tenor) and Milly Forrest (Soprano)\, accompanied by Jo Ramadan on the piano.

DESCRIPTION:Petros Singers is one of London’s leading amateur chamber choirs\, with around 35 auditioned singers. We perform a wide variety of music to a high standard\, placing emphasis on vibrant and communicative singing. DESCRIPTION:The City Glee Club justifiably claims to be the oldest musical club in London\, having existed in various guises since it was founded during the reign of King Charles in 1669 following the Great Fire of London. The Club’s professional singers are all members of London’s cathedral and major church choirs. DESCRIPTION:An open vocal masterclass with Emanuele Moris\, and singers Milly Forrest (soprano)\, Ben Smith (Tenor)\, Bethany Horak Hallet (MezzoSoprano) and James Schouten (Baritone) \nEmanuel Moris studied conducting with the great English Conductor Sir Adrian Boult. He is a coach at the Royal Opera House\, Covent Garden\, both for the Main House and for the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme as well as for the National Opera Studio. Since 1983 he has been the Professor of Italian Repertoire and also Italian Language for singers at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Emanuele works with the BBC Symphony Chorus\, the English National Opera\, the Opera North (Leeds). He is also a visiting Professor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Glasgow). \nAn extraordinary opportunity to watch four talented young singers being put through their paces by one of the world’s leading operatic coaches. SUMMARY:Lunchtime Recital
DESCRIPTION:We welcome André Gaio Pereira (violin) and Małgorzata Garstka (piano)\, who will be performing Mozart B flat major sonata and Brahms Sonata no 2 in A major\, for a free recital (with retiring collection) as part of our Quidam programme of music at St Peter’s. \nA soloist with regular concerto appearances and a keen chamber musician\, André Gaio Pereira was nominated Young Musician of the Year in Portugal for the current season after a performance with Gulbenkian Orchestra live for national television and radio. Highlights this season include his debut with Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra\, Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra and Metropolitana Orchestra. As a chamber musician\, André was the first violinist of the Tagus Quartet\, with whom he has appeared at Wigmore Hall and Cadogan Hall. He has played alongside the Doric and the Chilingirian Quartets and appeared at Harmos\, Mendelssohn on Mull and Oxford Lieder music festivals. \nAndré is now pursuing his Master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music – where he obtained the prize for the highest graduand in 2015/2016 – under the tutelage of Levon Chilingirian. André is generously supported in his studies by the ABRSM\, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust\, Help Musicians UK and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. \nPianist and collaborative artist Małgorzata Garstka was appointed the Hodgson Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music in 2016. Born in 1991 in Poland\, Małgorzata has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at many prestigious UK venues including Wigmore Hall\, Bridgewater Hall\, St Martin in the Fields\, London School of Economics\, Colston Hall. She has performed in Germany\, Slovakia\, Ukraine\, France\, Portugal\, Italy and Poland and has won top prizes at numerous solo and chamber music competitions\, including the Patrons’ Award and May Mukle Prize at the Royal Academy of Music\, Johann Sebastian Bach International Piano Competition in Gorzów Wielkopolski\, Friedrich Kuhlau International Competition. \nMałgorzata has participated in masterclasses with eminent musicians Christopher Elton\, Maxim Vengerov\, Daniel Hope\, Mario Brunello\, Rodney Friend\, Levon Chilingirian\, Tatiana Sarkissova\, and Andrzej Jasiński. She graduated from the State Music School Complex in Warsaw and she received her Master’s degree with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music.

DESCRIPTION:Mother’s Day on Sunday 11th March is a special time of the year for many of us as we show our love and appreciation for our mothers. We look forward to sharing flowers\, chocolates\, Sunday lunches and outings with our mums and our grannies who are at the heart of our whole family. But for those of us who have lost our mothers – perhaps recently or many years ago – it is a day of quiet reflection and we may look for a different expression of gratitude for all they gave us. \nThis year we are dedicating a lunchtime recital at St Peter’s Church to the memory of all our mothers and grandmothers whom we love but see no more. \n\nPoppy Shos – soprano\nRebecca Silverman – soprano\nErik Kallo – counter tenor\nGabija Butkute – piano\n\nThe recital is free as usual\, with a retiring collection\, but if you would like to sponsor a song in memory of your mother\, please call Caroline Langton on 07791058304 or contact us at QuidamW6@gmail.com.
