SUMMARY:Opera Integra: The Tales of Hoffman
DESCRIPTION:At a performance of Don Giovanni\, the patrons flock to the nearby bar to praise its star opera singer\, La Stella\, and are excited to see another celebrity in their midst – the infamous poet and storyteller Hoffmann. They encourage him to tell the tales of his three lost loves – automaton Olympia\, delicate soprano Antonia and dishonest courtesan Giuletta. \nOffenbach’s episodic opera of doomed love is presented in concert following Opera Integra’s fully-staged production directed by Lysanne van Overbeek (Grimeborn\, Barefoot Opera) under the baton of Jack Wong (Verbier Festival\, Hornton Chamber Orchestra). \nConscious of their mission to create opportunities for opera singers to perform complete roles\, Opera Integra presents this concert to allow the covers (those fully prepared to sing in the full production if the original performer is indisposed) to showcase their hard (and indispensable) work and commitment. \nBox Office: 07467 024389 or WWW.OPERAINTEGRA.ORG.UK \n

SUMMARY:Stephan and Nancy Storace: recital of songs
DESCRIPTION:An evening recital of songs by STEPHEN and NANCY STORACE\, friends and collaborators of W.A.Mozart. Performed by Carolee Fairbanks and Lucy Morrell\, accompanied by short talks. \nStephen and Nancy Storace were a fascinating brother-sister musical duo in 18th century opera circles\, who were also good friends and colleagues of W. A. Mozart. This concert will be a performance of rarely-heard works written especially for Nancy – including a recently re-discovered and rarely performed collaborative composition by Antonio Salieri\, W. A. Mozart\, and Stephen Storace. Throughout the concert\, the musical selections will be enhanced by historical insights regarding the relationships of these musicians\, including the Storaces’ immense capacity for friendship\, Mozart’s obvious admiration for Nancy\, and the fierce loyalty which existed between this brother-sister team throughout their lives. \nProgramme highlights will include:- \nSalieri\, Mozart and Storace:  Per la ricuperata salute di Ofelia \nStephen Storace:  Two canzonets Unless with my Amanda Blest and The Curfew \nStephen Storace:  Care donne che bramate/How Mistaken is the Lover\, an aria written (and subsequently re-written) for Nancy Storace \n  \nCarolee Fairbanks holds a BA in Physics Teaching from Brigham Young University. As a vocalist\, she studies with Ashley Stafford of London\, and currently sings as a choral scholar with the Episcopal Church of St. John the Divine in Urbana\, Illinois\, USA\, as well as singing regularly at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Chicago. Over the past few years\, Carolee has enjoyed delving into the archives of the British Library to discover and perform less-sung works of the 18th century English Theatre Music tradition\, and in the process has become fascinated with the lives of Stephen and Nancy Storace and W.A. Mozart. \nLucy Morrell is the current Organ Scholar at the Collegiate Church of St Mary’s\, Warwick where she plays for services as well as being involved with the training of the probationers and choristers. Prior to moving to Warwick\, Lucy was the Organ Scholar at St George’s Chapel\, Windsor Castle where she regularly accompanied and conducted the choir at Evensong as well as being involved with the training of the choristers. During her time at Windsor Lucy has been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to play pre-service music for two Royal Weddings as well as other high-profile services including the Garter Day service. Lucy read music at Girton College\, Cambridge where she was the organ scholar for three years. \n  \nTickets £10 / £5 conc

SUMMARY:Kesäkonsertti: a summer concert
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome Finnish soprano Margit Tuokko\, Emma Kuntsi playing the kantele\, and pianist\, Miles Lallement for a wonderful evening of Finnish music and song. The programme includes pieces for voice\, kantele and piano by Jean Sibelius\, Kaija Saariaho\, Toivo Kuula\, Tapio Tuomela and Heino Kaski as well as some traditional Finnish folksongs. \nThe kantele is a traditional plucked string instrument of the zither family and has a long history in Finnish balladry. The kantele has a distinctive bell-like sound and creates a uniquely mystical mood\, transporting the listener to legendary times and places of ancient Finnish folklore. \nDating back over 1000 years the Kantele has a strong connection with the ancient art of rune singing. Its mythical origins are described in Finland’s national epic\, Kalevala\, where the magician Väinämöinen creates the first kantele from the jawbone of a giant pike and a few hairs from Hiisi’s (the Devil’s) gelding. The music it makes draws all the forest creatures near to wonder at its beauty. Later Väinämöinen makes a wooden kantele\, strung with the hair of a willing maiden\, and it is the gift the eternal sage leaves behind when he departs Kaleva at the advent of Christianity. \nTickets £15 (£12 concessions); available on the door.

SUMMARY:QUIDAM: 'Forget-me-not' recital for Mother's Day
DESCRIPTION:Mother’s Day is a special time of the year for many of us as we show our love and appreciation for our mums who are at the heart of our whole family. But for those of us who have lost our mothers – perhaps recently or many years ago – it is a time of quiet reflection and we may look for a different expression of gratitude for all that they gave us. For the second year running we are dedicating the Forget-Me-Not song recital on Friday 29th March to the memory of our mothers and grandmothers whom we love but see no more. This time we will be holding the recital in the evening to allow more people to attend. \nThis is a free concert with retiring collection. But if you would like to sponsor a song in memory of a loved one\, please contact us on QuidamW6@gmail.com. We are asking for a minimum donation of £30 per song which will go to support the Quidam W6 Lunchtime Recital programme. \nFriday 29th March | 7.30pm

SUMMARY:QUIDAM: Persian music and poetry
DESCRIPTION:Nowruz Evening: Persian Music and Poetry \nA feast of Persian music and poetry to herald the festival of Nowruz which celebrates the coming of the Spring Solstice and the Persian New Year! As well as the music and poetry\, we will share a selection of Persian food and drink. \nDr Peyman Heydarian is an internationally renowned classical musician. Peyman’s main instrument is the santur\, a beautifully resonant dulcimer played with felt hammers\, and forerunner of the harpsichord. For more than thirty years Peyman has performed solo santur recitals all over the world including Iran\, USA\, Syria\, Jordan\, Turkey\, Greece\, Italy\, Hong Kong\, Poland\, and the UK. \nFor our first ever Nowruz celebration\, Peyman will perform solo santur and daf\, as well as accompanying Roshan Ravan and Saara Hasan as they perform poems in Farsi (with English translations) by poets such as Rumi\, Hafez and Saadi and a range of contemporary and traditional Persian folk songs. \nFriday 15th March | 7.30pm | £15. Tickets available online at http://www.thesantur.com/events.html . \nOn 12th November 2017 a devastating earthquake\, registering 7.3 on the Richter scale\, occurred on the Iran-Iraq border and was felt as far away as Israel and the UAE. Large communities of Kurdish people live in the Kermanshah region and they were particularly affected by the disaster. \nOver 700 people were killed by the earthquake and more than 8\,000 were injured. All the schools in the region were closed. We will be collecting donations towards rebuilding the Kermanshah schools and restoring education to the Kurdish people who live in the region

SUMMARY:SingWest Community Choir
DESCRIPTION:SingWest are a group of locals who get together to sing once a week in a community choir. We are amateur\, non-stressy\, and informal. None of us are especially talented vocalists\, some of us are genuinely awful. But we’ve found the life-affirming and restorative power of music is an amazing antidote to the stress and routine of everyday life and we think everyone should experience it.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are led by Dafydd Evans\, a singer songwriter from Wales. Dafydd trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and The Academy of Contemporary Music achieving a First Class BMus (Hons) degree in vocal performance\, and is a former member of Only Men Aloud\, with which he won BBC 1’s Last Choir Standing in 2008. \nTheir debut album sold over 250\,000 copies in the UK and their second album won Best Classical Album at the Classical Brit Awards in 2010. As part of the choir he has done numerous TV appearances\, performed in many prestigious venues and toured extensively throughout the UK and the US. \nThere is no pressure\, you will not required to sing a solo\, it’s easy to hide at the back and laugh – you will never feel self-conscious or embarrassed. We meet on Mondays\, 7.15pm-9pm\, at St Peter’s Church – usually followed by a trip to the pub! \nFor more details\, or to contact us\, visit www.singwest.co.uk .

SUMMARY:Petros Singers' Concert: Hodie!
DESCRIPTION:Join Petros Singers for a Christmas concert without a shepherd\, Magi\, figgy pudding or partridge to be seen or heard! \nWe celebrate music written for Christmas Day itself\, such as the triumphant opening chorus of J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and the splendid polychoral motet Puer Natus in Bethlehem by Michael Praetorius. These showpiece works are placed alongside more intimate fare such as Bruckner’s Virga Jesse and Parry’s Wolcum Yule while we also include Michael Haydn’s rarely heard Viderunt Omnes. \nLaunching a new initiative to feature music by female composers\, we perform recent pieces by Cheryl Frances-Hoad and Cecilia McDowall before Holst’s choral fantasy Christmas Day brings our concert to a joyous finale. \nThere will be the usual mixture of seasonal carols for the audience to join in with and more mince pies than you can shake a Santa hat at. It promises to be a memorable evening and we look forward to seeing you there. Doors open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. \nWe are delighted to be joined by organist\, Luke Bond. Luke is Assistant Director of Music at St George’s Chapel\, Windsor Castle\, a position he previously held at Truro Cathedral. In great demand throughout the county in recital\, Luke was organist at both the Royal Weddings of 2018. \nTickets: £17 (concessions £15);  £5 under-18s and students. All tickets include a free concert programme. \nTickets available at www.wegottickets.com/petrossingers (with no booking fee) or via tickets@petrossingers.org.
