DESCRIPTION:Join us in church to watch the Last Night of the Proms together on the big screen\, with drinks\, food\, flag-waving\, bunting and general bonhomie\, culminating as we sing along to Rule Britannia\, Land of Hope and Glory\, Jerusalem\, the National Anthem\, and Auld Lang Syne. \nDoors will open at 6.30 pm\, with the first half of the concert beginning at 7 pm. There will be a cash bar open all evening\, and finger food (sandwiches\, sausage rolls\, quiche\, etc) available for a donation until the start of the second half. \nIt would be extremely helpful to have an idea of numbers in advance – so do please sign up on the list in the parish rooms or email the office if you’re planning to come!

DESCRIPTION:This year\, Petros Singers’ Christmas Concert encompasses both the festive and the seasonal in a beautiful programme which combines traditional carols with music that emulates the frost\, cold and bright skies of wintertime. Do join us for audience carols\, candlelight\, mulled wine and mince pies to welcome in the festivities! \nOur musical journey\, encompassing both wintertime and Christmastide\, has two works by contemporary composers as its focus: Sarah Quartel’s cantata\, A winter day\, conjures up haunting and vivid images of a cold and crisp winter\, and of swirling\, dancing snowflakes. In contrast\, Cecilia McDowаll’s carol cycle\, A winter’s night\, combines several joyous songs to create a performance full of Christmas spirit. This festive celebration will also include some favourite Christmas works\, as well as the ever-popular audience carols for you to sing. \nWe’re delighted to welcome Christopher Webb\, bass-baritone\, and Cara Berridge\, violoncello\, along with our accompanist Alex Knight. \nTickets at £20\, £17 (concessions) and £5 (age 30 and under) are available online and on the door. \nFull details and tickets at PETROS SINGERS. \n  \nPetros Singers is West London’s leading amateur chamber choir. We perform a wide variety of music – from baroque to contemporary\, from large-scale works to exquisite miniatures – placing particular emphasis on vibrant and communicative singing.  \nRichard Bannan was a choral scholar at Clare College\, Cambridge before embarking on a career as a professional vocal musician\, arranger and teacher. He now sings as a Lay-Clerk at St George’s Chapel\, Windsor Castle\, and with many of the country’s major professional ensembles.

DESCRIPTION:Petros Singers’ Spem in Alium singing workshop culminates in this hour-long recital. Over the course of the day\, experienced amateur singers will have worked in eight individual choirs\, each led by a professional singer\, to explore and learn Thomas Tallis’ seminal work. In addition to the Workshop Choir\, you will hear performances by the professional workshop leaders (singing together as The Garter Consort) and by Petros Singers. \nThe recital will place Tallis’ 40-part motet within the context of his other choral works\, as well as works by his pupil\, William Byrd\, who died 400 years ago in 1623. There are few composers who mastered their craft as definitively as did Tallis\, particularly notable when you consider the historic religious upheaval that dominated\, and determined\, his artistic life. While Spem in Alium represents the apotheosis of his approach\, his smaller motets are no less miraculous. Moreover\, by first teaching and then going into business with Byrd\, Tallis was able to shape the second generation of Anglican choral music\, as he had defined the first\, as well as leaving his stamp on the early English Madrigal. \nThis influence will be explored in our recital as we place the music of these two great English composers alongside each other. DESCRIPTION:Join Petros Singers for an afternoon exploring Bach’s B Minor Mass\, the composer’s great final achievement and\, arguably\, the pinnacle of grand choral composition. This monumental work was likely never performed during Bach’s lifetime\, with the first complete public performance taking place more than 100 years after his death. We are holding this workshop in anticipation of our own performance of the B Minor Mass at St James’s Piccadilly on 1 April 2023. \nThis come-and-sing workshop will be led by David Bates\, one of Europe’s most exciting directors of Baroque music. David will work through movements of the Mass\, bringing his unique flair for vocal communication\, text and musical style. After a break for tea\, we will have the opportunity to sing through the pieces we have rehearsed and\, at 5.30pm\, there will be an informal performance which friends and family of workshop participants are warmly invited to attend. \nTickets £25 | £20 concessions and under 28s\nAvailable from the PETROS SINGERS website. \n  \nDavid Bates is artistic director of La Nuova Musica with whom he performs regularly at the Wigmore Hall\, the London Handel Festival and on a string of critically acclaimed recordings. SUMMARY:Opera Integra: Cavalleria Rusticana
DESCRIPTION:On Friday 22 October we welcome an evening of dramatic opera from Opera Integra. \nThe first half will be a complete performance of Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana\, one of the most dramatic operas in the repertoire\, and which includes the wonderful Easter hymn at its heart.  The second half will comprise the party scene from Verdi’s La Traviata\, followed by the banquet scene from Verdi’s Macbeth where the guilty Macbeth is confronted by the recently murdered Banquo. \nTickets are £15\, either from OPERA INTEGRA or at the door.
