Quidam Discussion: Iain Duncan Smith

21st June 2018 @ 8:00 pm

Quidam in Discussion: ‘Poverty and the Family’

The Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP will discuss with Victoria  MacDonald, Channel 4’s Health and Social Affairs correspondent, the subject to which he has devoted much of his energy and time since entering Parliament as MP for Chingford, Essex in 1992: how family life and state intervention can prevent and alleviate poverty and hardship.

In 2004 Iain Duncan Smith set up a new think-tank, the Centre for Social Justice, to study ways of combating poverty. In 2010 he was given the chance to put his ideas into practice as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions: he initiated an overhaul of existing systems of state benefits culminating in a new dispensation – ‘Universal Credit’, designed to incentivise paid work at all levels over state assistance.

Admission £5 on the door. Students come in free.
