Beating the Bounds
9th June 2019 @ 12:00 pm
Event Navigation
Kick off with a quick snack in church, then help us revive the traditional medieval practice of walking round the parish boundaries, hitting the ancient boundary markers (we’ve located six of them!) as we go. Traditionally the boys of the parish were turned upside down, and their heads knocked against the boundary markers, to help them remember. We might skip this bit (!), but you will still need to bring a long stick!
It’s about two and half miles, and we stop off on the way at two or three hostelries strategically located, as luck would have it, exactly on the parish boundaries, ending at the Black Lion. A pleasant saunter on a sunny afternoon!
You can find a map of exactly where St Peter’s parish boundaries are at A CHURCH NEAR YOU.
